MELLC is a group of English Learner/Bilingual Program leaders who gather at a year-long series of meetings to address issues related in K-12 programs.
MATSOL members who have been appointed (or serve in the role) as English Learner Education Program Directors or Coordinators can register for the full series of meetings in late August. Please contact Ann Feldman if you have questions about your eligibility.
These full-day Friday meetings are held at Leominster Four Points Sheraton Hotel and MELLC participants are required to register for the entire series of meetings at a special price to cover the room, equipment rental and meals.
See the calendar for upcoming meeting dates. Please note that pre-registration is required. No drop-ins are permitted (except for substitutions for a paying member) and a firm head-count is expected from the hotel 72 hours before each meeting.
Registration is required for participation in this group.

History: Several years ago Directors of ELL and Bilingual programs in grades K-12 throughout the state met informally to discuss issues related to their programs and students. These meetings served as a forum for leaders to share ideas, problem-solve and keep informed about issues related to educating English learners and bilingual students. After many calls from our membership to re-institute this type of a forum, a meeting was held in June 2007 where we launched the group now known as “MELLC” – the Massachusetts English Language Leadership Council.
MELLC meets several times during the school year in a series of all-day meetings to tackle issues related to SEI, ESL , dual-language and Bilingual educational programs. The meetings include resource sharing, development of supportive relationships, visits from special guests, tackling curriculum and professional development needs, advocacy and creation of position statements designed to best inform our programs. Although MATSOL has arranged the venue and sometimes Board members help plan the agenda, the direction and content of these meetings is determined by the meeting members. At this point it is a sub-group of the K-12 Special Interest Groups.
