Dual Language SIG SIG Representative: Jody Klein
Dual language/immersion or two-way language programs are allowed under the current Chapter 71A in Massachusetts. These highly successful programs allow English language learners of a specific group to maintain their own language while serving as role models to English only speakers who are also learning a new language. Most programs exist currently in Massachusetts in Spanish. While students in these programs do very well academically on every measure, there are only a handful of these programs in Massachusetts. MATSOL advocates for replication and creation of new programs where possible in order to insure the academic achievement of ELLs.
