Massachusetts SEI TEACHER Endorsement Course (RE-600)

MATSOL courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced instructors who have taught English Learners in Massachusetts public schools and been trained and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. MATSOL offers this course as part of our mission to promote equity and excellence for English Learners.

The SEI Teacher Endorsement Course is an approved pathway to Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement for:

  • Any educator seeking SEI Endorsement after 2016
  • Non-core educators (art, music, world language, P.E., etc.)
  • Individuals who failed their Endorsement course the first time around
  • Educators who, for personal reasons, did not avail themselves of no-cost courses when they were available
  • Parochial and private school educators

Course Requirements
  • Participants must attend all 12 face-to-face course sessions (including any make up dates) and one capstone presentation session and complete 8 online modules.
  • Participants must be able to implement the strategies taught in the sessions with English learners in a classroom context in order to successfully complete the assignments for the course.  
  • Per DESE requirements, the course is not offered during the summer or in an online-only format.

Participants who successfully complete the course will earn 67.5 professional development points (PDPs) or 3 graduate credits through Fitchburg State University. (A participant may use either a PDP certificate or a graduate transcript toward recertification, but NOT both.) Learn more about the Graduate Credit Option.

  • Full legal name (first, last, and middle initial) (as it appears in ELAR)
  • MEPID (look up in ELAR)
  • Date of birth (month and day)
  • District code & name - Please use the DESE’s District Names and Codes list at http://profiles.doe.mass.eduIf you do not currently work and/or are not licensed in Massachusetts, enter MEPID: "00000000" and DISTRICT: "09990000" and "Test District"

Cancellation & Refund

Refunds may be requested for cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the first class meeting, minus a $25 service charge. There is no refund for cancellations made fewer than 10 business days before the start of the course. If a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, MATSOL will allow the option to transfer to another course or receive a full refund.

MA SEI TEACHER Endorsement Course Schedule

No Summer Courses:The SEI Teacher Endorsement Course is not offered during the summer, per ESE policy. The course is only offered during the school year because participants must have access to a classroom to implement or observe the SEI strategies during the course.
