2021 Private Language Schools & Intensive English Program Conference

The conference will bring together educators and administrators in Private Language Schools and Intensive English Programs (PLS & IEPs) from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts working with adult English language learners at all levels.

The conference is organized by the MATSOL Private Language Schools Special Interest Groups (SIG).

9:00-9:50 am Changes in Teacher Training and Professional Development in Modern Times Stephanie Vogel What are some of the changes that have been made in Training and Professional Development in response to the modern era? What are some changes that haven’t been made that need to be considered? How can we help new teachers prepare for an uncertain world? How can we help our current teachers adapt? No one has all the answers, but with an exploration of these issues, perhaps we can face the uncertain future with optimism rather than with fear.
10:00-10:50 am It’s all Geek to Me Caroline McKinnon & Noga Loar In this session, the presenters will introduce you to ideas on how to use popular culture, from podcasts to comics, in your classes. You will learn practical tips and explore the authentic learning that occurs when you ‘geek’ it up.
11:00-11:50 am Updates in Post-Secondary English Language Programs

Cheryl Delk Le Good, Haviva Parnes, & Caroline Gear

Leadership and program administrators from EnglishUSA share insights into the ELP industry, including nationwide trends and how programs are dealing with the challenges that remain in post-COVID 19 recovery.
