Supporting English Learners in Specialty Subjects (EL-103)Supporting academic language development for English learners with English Language Development Standards ✔ Specialists - art, music, theater, physical education, health, technology, and other DescriptionThis hands-on interactive course provides specialty area teachers with a deeper understanding of how to identify, analyze and develop academic language for ELLs using Massachusetts English Language Development Standards and other tools. Course participants will learn to apply language development strategies to their teaching context, taking into account the four language domains (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and their students’ English proficiency. Working collaboratively with model texts, state model curriculum units, and their own lessons, teachers will gain expertise in the unique language features in their specialty areas, and how to increase students' content comprehension and academic language and literacy skills. AudienceTeachers of Art, Music, Theater, Physical Education, Health, Computers/Technology, and other special subjects.
