Cape Cod & Islands Regional SIG

The Multilingual Learner Educators of the Cape & Islands is a regional group for Pre K-12 multilingual learner educators on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket. The group was reinstated the summer of 2021.

The goal of the Cape & Islands Group is to provide ongoing support to ESL/ELD/EL educators on the Cape and Islands as we implement state and federal mandates for English learner / Multilingual learner education, and to connect about our Multilingual learner populations, our successes and challenges, and to learn and to support each other. We seek to strengthen our collective by working together. Some of our activities include:

  • Sharing resources such as forms, curriculum, progress reports, etc.
  • Presentations from group members: effective lessons, curriculum, apps, etc.
  • Sharing dilemmas for discussion and brainstorming ideas/solutions
  • Family engagement strategies and effective communication
  • Sharing of Professional Development resources
  • Exploring topics on EL/SPED, CPR and compliance issues, RETELL, , ELD curriculum, WIDA, strategies, SEI vs. ELD, SLIFE, etc.
  • Updates MA ESE and policy changes with DESE EL presenters
Membership

Meetings are open to current MATSOL Members at no charge. 

  • Non-Members: Join MATSOL and choose "Cape & the Islands" as a special interest areas.
  • Members: Update your member profile and choose "Cape & the Islands" as a special interest area.

The Cape & Islands Regional SIG will meet via ZOOM Meetings on the second Thursdays of every other month from 4:00-5:00PM :

  • April 13
  • June 8 (perhaps in-person!)
