Massachusetts SEI Teacher Endorsement Course (RE-600)

The purpose of this course is to prepare Massachusetts teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective reviewers and instructional leaders of educators who teach English Learners (ELs) to ensure that they are able to access grade level curriculum, achieve academic success, and contribute their multilingual and multicultural resources as participants and future leaders in the 21st century global economy. MATSOL offers this course as part of our mission to promote equity and excellence for English Learners.

The SEI Teacher Endorsement Course is a state-approved pathway to obtain the required endorsement for: 

  • Core Academic Teachers (early childhood, elementary, teachers of students with moderate and severe disabilities, English, reading, language arts, mathematics, science, civics and government, economics, history, and geography)
  • Vocational Educators beginning July 1, 2021, educators applying for their first Professional Vocational license or certain Initial Vocational Administrator licenses (specifically Vocational Principal/Assistant Principal and Vocational Supervisor/Director) must obtain the SEI endorsement. 

Academic Administrators (principal/assistant principal or supervisor/director only) can take the Massachusetts SEI Administrator Endorsement Course.

MATSOL SEI courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced instructors of English Learners in Massachusetts public schools who are trained and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Course Requirements

  • Participants must attend all 12 synchronous online OR face-to-face course sessions (including any make up dates) and one capstone presentation session and complete 8 online modules. Note: Currently, all MATSOL courses are online only.
  • Participants must be able to implement the strategies taught in the sessions with English learners in a classroom context in order to successfully complete the assignments for the course. Participants who do not have access to a classroom, whether in person or online, can make arrangements with the instructor to complete assignments through a mutually arranged Professional Learning Network. 

PDPs/Credit

Participants who successfully complete the course will earn 67.5 professional development points (PDPs). There is an option to register for 3 graduate credits through Fitchburg State University at the additional cost of $295.00. A participant may use either a PDP certificate or a graduate transcript toward recertification, but NOT both. Learn more about the Graduate Credit Option.

The following information is required for registration (per ESE guidelines):

  • Full legal name (first, last, and middle initial) (as it appears in ELAR)
  • MEPID (look up in ELAR)
  • Date of birth (month and day)
  • District code & name - Please use the DESE’s District Names and Codes list at http://profiles.doe.mass.edu. 
  • If you do not currently work and/or are not licensed in Massachusetts, enter MEPID: "00000000" and DISTRICT: "09990000" and "Test District"

Payment by VISA or MasterCard via our secure online merchant portal.

Cancellation & Refund

Refunds may be requested for cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the first class meeting, minus a $25 service charge. There is no refund for cancellations made fewer than 10 business days before the start of the course. Requests for cancellation or refunds must be made in writing via email to [email protected]. Please see MATSOL Course Registration, Cancellation & Payment Policies. 

If a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, MATSOL will allow the option to transfer to another course or receive a full refund.
