Translanguaging and Role Plays
Katja Davidoff (CELOP)

Use of "translanguaging" to transfer student comfort and fluency in L1 to L2 and interactive role plays to engage students in famous people of historical importance.  The following project was created to help students develop their interactive presentation skills by offering them a chance to embody culturally relevant historical figures and to interact with other historical figures.  The fluid use of first or native language, ("translanguaging"), was allowed for research and to increase learner comprehension and comfort level. The interactive presentation in concert with peers helped the learners to live their thoughts and research actively and increase their confidence and speaking skills.

Note: The topic of this presentation has been updated since it was first posted.
