About the SIG:

The Community College ESL Faculty Special Interest Group (SIG) is a group for faculty and staff in ESL/ESOL programs at Community Colleges in Massachusetts. The group meets several times during the school year, and communicates via a MATSOL E-List. Some issues the group has addressed include: Credentialing for ESL across the state; The relationships between Adult Basic Education, workforce ESL and academic ESL; Being proactive on the college campus; Over-reliance on adjunct faculty; Grants and their effects on our programs; Defining success for a community college student; Anti-immigrant backlash; Academic credit for ESL: Writing position papers on important issues. Visit the Community College ESL Faculty SIG page.

About this meeting:

From 3:00-3:30pm, the steering committee will share results from our annual Community College ESL program survey.

At 3:30 pm, Larry Dean from the Department of Higher Education MassTransfer, will join us to talk about DHE plans to convene a group of Massachusetts community college faculty who teach English to speakers of other languages to discuss how such courses might be more consistently offered throughout the state.
