Description

This online course provides music educators with knowledge and strategies to create an inclusive music classroom and support the language development of English learners.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Evaluate the tasks and assessments in music education to improve access for English learners at all proficiency levels
  • Apply scaffolds to support language-based tasks, including adjustments to speaking and writing tasks.
  • Engage in collaborative discussions about strategies and tools to promote English language development in music classes.
  • Develop culturally responsive practices to welcome and engage multilingual learners.
  • Earn 15 PDPs in English Learner Education (SEI) for license recertification.

Participants will choose a culminating task that applies concepts from the course in their music classroom. 

This course is offered in collaboration with the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, Eastern District.
