The purpose of this course is to prepare Massachusetts school administrators with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective reviewers and instructional leaders of educators who teach English Learners (ELs) to ensure that they are able to access grade level curriculum, achieve academic success, and contribute their multilingual and multicultural resources as participants and future leaders in the 21st century global economy. MATSOL offers this course as part of our mission to promote equity and excellence for English Learners.

MATSOL SEI courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced instructors of English Learners in Massachusetts public schools who are trained and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. 

Note: This is a course for ADMINISTRATORS only. If you are a teacher, you must take RE-600 MA SEI Teacher Endorsement Course to receive the endorsement.

Course Requirements

  • Participants must attend all 5 synchronous online OR face-to-face course sessions (including any make up dates) and complete all online independent learning modules. Note: Currently, all MATSOL courses are online only.
  • Participants must be able to observe teachers of English learners in a classroom context in order to successfully complete the assignments for the course. 

 

PDPs/Credit

Participants who successfully complete the course will earn 15 professional development points (PDPs)There is an option to register for 1 graduate credit through Fitchburg State University at the additional cost of $210.00. (A participant may use either a PDP certificate or a graduate transcript toward recertification, but NOT both.) The following information is required for registration (per ESE guidelines):

  • Full legal name (first, last, and middle initial) (as it appears in ELAR)
  • MEPID (look up in ELAR)
  • Date of birth (month and day)
  • District code & name - Please use the DESE’s District Names and Codes list at http://profiles.doe.mass.edu
  • If you do not currently work and/or are not licensed in Massachusetts, enter MEPID: "00000000" and DISTRICT: "09990000" and "Test District"

Cancellation & Refund

Refunds may be requested for cancellations made at least 10 days prior to the first class meeting, minus a $25 service charge. There is no refund for cancellations made fewer than 10 business days before the start of the course. If a course is cancelled due to low enrollment, MATSOL will allow the option to transfer to another course or receive a full refund.
